I'm not sure if i should choose a 3.4 by 5 which covers the middle part of the living room but still leaves room to walk around it. Or should I buy a 5 by 8 which covers most of the floor. The reason i need a rug is because i feel it brings the room and furniture nicely together. below is the pic of the rug I'm getting

I don't have a coffee table and do not plan on getting one I like the open space and feel that a table will make my living room look clutered.

What do you suggest is a better size rug to get
I live in a tiny 2 bedroom chicago apt so needless to say that my apt is only slightly bigger than what a studio apt would be so the living room is really not that big

If you have hard wood floors, the larger one would be very pretty as long as you have between 1 and 2 feet of the floor showing.

By the way, the rug is beautiful, you have good taste.

I recently read that the rug should be large enough so that the furniture is on it to sort of anchor it.

Atleast a 5 by 8 any smaller will look silly.

well my suggestion is that if you are getting a rug which has a pattern or some design on it that you want your gusts to see you can get a small one.. however, if you want one just to complement the furniture and it is single colored.. you can get a bigger one that can go underneath the furniture too as it will not hide any design

make sure the rug you get is made of good material and does not bear the marks of furniture after its placed.. whether big or small.. the rug should be good enough looking to add to the beauty of any where it is used
