Huge Cook-pine Tree Felling (阿德鋸樹)
By admin | June 16, 2009
This video shows how we felled two huge (20-25 meters high) trees (南洋杉, an evergreen originally grown in the southern Asia and in ancient times; Araucaria columnaris – Cook pine) planted in between our neighboring 7-floor apartment building and our very old house.
The trees had been planted long before that neighboring tall apartment was built. As the city continued to develop, these huge old trees faced tough times and little room to survive.
The total weight of these two trees felled is 5.43 tons.
We were forced to fell them for our neighbors feared that these two huge trees might fall and people might get injured. Or our old house might eventually be damaged in typhoon seasons by the falling trees.
We have long contemplated how we should fell them. We might try to climb up to the top of the trees and fell them foot-by-foot, or build a structure surrounding the trunks with bamboo rods to ist the tree-felling.
However these two trees were 6-floor high and were planted in a narrow space. Should we fall down or the cut trunks drop on us, we might get seriously hurt. Well, we hired two forklift trucks with extension arms to ist the tree felling.
The background music consists of the actual tree-felling sounds and remixed

These two songs were re-mixed with the actual audio recording while the trees were felled. A friend e-mailed me recently these two songs/video for my birthday.
